“Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters, since you know that you will receive an inheritance from the Lord as a reward. It is the Lord Christ you are serving.” Colossians 3:23-24 (NIV)
This verse is a great reminder of who we are living for and what truly matters.
It is so easy to get off track and forget why you are doing the things you do. We start working for others and to prove something to other people, instead of working for the Lord and making ourselves happy. In todays society there is a huge emphasis put on fortune and fame. In hindsight none of that matters, or will matter at the end of the day. Things and wealth can satisfy you for a short period of time, but will never fulfill you and make you truly happy. Whatever it is that you love doing, do it! At least try and do it. When doing whatever it is that you do, do it for the Lord and do it with joy and love. At the end of the day you’re happy, God is happy and that is all you have to worry about.
Whatever your profession, make sure you enjoy what you’re doing and giving it 110%. Live for the Lord and you can’t go wrong.

Little Lights Of Mine 
Amen and Amen. I find it so hard sometimes getting stuck in going through the motions (i’m in school now) and lose focus. Like, “why am I doing this?” But then just this past Sunday God reminded me just what you wrote, to do everything as to Him, and that He may receive the glory. That totally reshifts focus and is motivating to me 🙂
I absolutely agree with this 110%. I’m finding out more and more that life is about serving the Lord. It’s why he created us, and when we finally realize that and do what he says then life becomes fulfilling. There will be times when we are ridiculed, mocked, judged. All of these things happened to Jesus so, we will face them too. However, we are not alone! That’s the beauty of it! … Keep your heads held high! 🙂
Such an important word to engrave upon our hearts! We often forget Whose we are and why we are in the position to do the things we are. In all things seek to bring glory to His name!
Agree with most of waht you said. However, I think it is alot easier to mention that “wealth and fame can satisfy you for a short period of time but will never fulfill you and make you happy” when you are married to a millionaire. It’s not always easy for someone who maybe doesn’t have the financial wealth that you do to think in these terms.
Lauren – I was just reading your post and what you said is something that I have struggled with over the years. You’re right – being financially set and sound definitely helps to eliminate many of the stresses and burdens we face each day. But we have to stay encouraged and remember that God is in control – He cares for our every need – even those needs we don’t even realize we have. Matthew 6:25-34 says, “25 Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothes? 26 Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they? 27 Can any one of you by worrying add a single hour to your life? 28 “And why do you worry about clothes? See how the flowers of the field grow. They do not labor or spin. 29 Yet I tell you that not even Solomon in all his splendor was dressed like one of these. 30 If that is how God clothes the grass of the field, which is here today and tomorrow is thrown into the fire, will he not much more clothe you—you of little faith? 31 So do not worry, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ 32 For the pagans run after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them. 33 But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. 34 Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.” Stay encouraged and NEVER forget that you have THE MOST powerful and all-knowing God/servant/friend/Savior/Counselor/Protector, etc. watching over you – so choose to serve Him with everything you have inside you and He surely will never let you down – no matter how impossible the financial outlook may be at that moment.Peace and blessings, Camy.

Since I’ve given birth 5 months ago, losing weight has been such a challenge. But what has helped me is to look at my efforts as an act of worship… Knowing that I’m ultimately trying to please God by keeping my body up and making healthy choices, makes this journey so much easier.
Such a great verse isn’t it? It’s sometimes very hard to remember this when you live in a society where you’re trying to keep up with the Jones’. We all get in a rut and feel like our jobs aren’t fulfilling enough, meaningful enough or profitable enough. But this word gives us hope. I’m not working for a corporation, God is my boss and if I’m working to please him then why wouldn’t I put my everything into what I do and at least try?

This is a good post. You make some good points. We really should seek the Lord in all that we do. I think you might have put a little too much emphasis on happiness. While God gives us happiness and our identity as adopted sons and daughters is in Him, our motivation for seeking the Him and obeying Him should simply be because He deserves it because He sent His Son to die on the cross for our sins, reconciling, us to Himself, restoring us now and saving us for eternity. God is deserving of our lives whether or not He makes us happy. We are blessed that serving Him makes us happy. He showers us in blessing, but that shouldn’t be our motivation. That mindset has the potential to lead to a prosperity Gospel. Overall, I agree with you, and honestly need to be better focused on who I’m serving daily.
